Case Study: Penn-Union

Problem:

Since, 1928 Penn-Union has earned the reputation as a manufacturer of quality electrical connectors. As technology had evolved, their customers were demanding more streamlined solutions when researching product information or accessing inventory data. Penn-Union had to completely overhaul their web infrastructure to stay competitive.

Approach:

With an inventory of thousands of product numbers, owebtech saw it to be vital to design a robust database structure allowing for easy product updates. It was determined that integrating into the company’s JD Edwards Enterprise Resource System (ERP) was the most effective way to give customers the latest product inventory levels.

Differentiating the website even more, owebtech designed a customize product search function that allowed customers to put competitor’s part numbers into a search box and receive a equivalent Penn-Union product number.

Results:

Penn-Union’s sales distributors switched from using a standard 500-pages inventory guide to using the web as their primary tool to get the latest product information. Operational efficiency has also seen a boost since customers have access to the latest information and do not have to rely on calling the company directly. In the near future Penn-Union plans to further streamline their website by giving customers the ability to place their orders through the web.
